It would be a shame if you were fined while in Baku. Check out our tips on how to enjoy the F1 race in Baku without spending extra.
SPEED LIMITS
Passenger cars (up to 3.500 kgs)
- city centre - 60 km/h
- outside the village - 90 km/h
- on a road with two lanes in one direction - 90 km/h
- on a motorway - 110 km/h
VIGNETTE/TOLL
Until October 2023, there were no tolls on roads and motorways (valid for passenger cars). Subsequently, however, a new highway has opened from Baku to the border of the Russian Federation. This highway is now tolled - payments need to be made at toll booths.
ALCOHOL BEHIND THE WHEEL
For drivers in Azerbaijan, the legal alcohol limit is 0.3 per ML, which is about one glass of wine.
But be careful, because if you exceed this generous limit, the penalties are severe. If a driver exceeds this limit, a fine of AZN 400 (about $250) or a restriction of driving privileges for 6 to 12 months will be imposed.
WHAT TO DO IF I GET A FINE
The authorities do not enforce traffic laws consistently, but that certainly does not mean that you should commit traffic violations. Also, note that driving in Azerbaijan can be dangerous - given that many drivers there do not obey traffic laws and their cars are often in poor condition.
